Fitness at Active Mid Devon

Active Mid Devon has a wide range of fitness activities, from our state-of-the-art fitness studios to hundreds of classes run on a weekly basis.

Ready to get started? You’ll find all the information you need on how to jump-start your fitness journey, and if you have any questions our friendly reception staff will be willing to help.

Getting Started

We have different options available to you depending on whether you’d like to get started quickly, or would prefer a little more support when entering the gym for the first time.

OPTION 1 – Gym Start

Suitable for inexperienced/new gym users or for those who like following a programme to keep them motivated.

1. Consultation

Approximately 60 minutes

One hour consultation with a fitness consultant to discuss specific aims and goals as well as equipment preferences. You will be required to fill in a Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire as well as having your blood pressure checked.

  • A ‘Gym Start’ journey booklet will be started for you and will help you to achieve your goals, your fitness consultant will go through this with you.
  • Optional tailored measurements to be taken, eg. body fat %, weight, height, peak flow, hydration %, visceral fat, etc.
  • Start learning how to set up and use some of the equipment that will be included in your personalised programme.

2. Programme Show

Approximately 60 minutes

  • Complete the construction of your personalised fitness programme which will be based on helping you reach the goals that you have set during your consultation.
  • The instructor will complete a full run-through of your programme to ensure you are happy with how to set the equipment up correctly.

3. First Review

Approximately 60 minutes

  • Your fitness consultant will book you in for a 4-6 week review to help keep you motivated and progressing.

4. Second Review

Approximately 60 minutes

  • At 10-12 weeks your instructor will book you in for another review and your three month assessment.

Thereafter you will have regular 6-12 week reviews to check on progress and make any necessary changes to help you continue achieving and exceeding your targets!

OPTION 2 – Quick Start

Suitable for experienced gym users – approximately 10 – 30 minutes.

This session will be booked in with a fitness consultant who will show you how to use the fitness equipment where necessary. This will normally take up to 30 minutes, dependant on individual requirements. You will be required to fill in a Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire as well as having your blood pressure checked.

What do I need to bring?

Please bring a towel and water bottle and wear suitable clothing/footwear to exercise in for all sessions.

New Sanitation Stations in our gyms

We’ve refreshed our gym cleaning process to help keep our space healthier, safer, and feeling great for everyone.

You’ll now find our new Sanitation Stations around the gym — simply grab a paper towel, spray the towel first, and wipe down your kit after use. Please use only what you need, so there’s plenty to go around for everyone. 🧼
